Day 3

Watch manly-men chop and saw wood, throw an axe, climb a tree, roll on a log and more at the Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show. Acclaimed by Travel Channel as one of the "Top 10 Things to See in Alaska," this rollicking presentation by real lumberjacks showcases Ketchikan’s pioneer beginnings. While it may not be feature car engines, this show surely doesn’t lack the velocity or gas-pumping thrill you crave! From the pier, you’ll walk to the covered, heated and cushioned grandstand. You’ll get to see Alaska's frontier lumberjacks battle British Columbia's premier woodsmen in a no-holds-barred competition for the title "Bull of the Woods." These world champion athletes are featured in springboard chopping, buck sawing, axe throwing, log rolling and the thrilling 50-foot tree climb, while the colorful host delights the crowd with stories of lumberjack lore. Be prepared to see six-foot razor-sharp saws slicing through trees, men running atop spinning logs floating in the water, souped-up chainsaws and more! At the end of the show, you can have your picture taken with the “surviving” lumberjack. You might want to look for unique Alaskan items like the Lumberjack calendar as a perfect memento of your visit after the show. You’re free to wander the town, or simply take the short walk back to your ship at your leisure. ***Notes: No charge for children two years of age and younger. Videotaping of the show is not permitted, but still photography is welcome. Guests make their own way to the show on a 5- to 10-minute walk from the pier. We’d like to fill the show with our PCA group; however if we don’t meet the minimum number required for a private show; bookings will be opened to other guests with seating sections reserved for PCA.
